music

I sang before I spoke as a baby, that’s what my grandma used to say. I remember singing my way through everything—my chores, my studies. In fact, my business school yearbook said, “She killed us all softly with her song.” But life intervened, and as I was working intensively in my business life, traveling and balancing family, music simply took a backseat.
About ten years ago, I had an epiphany as I had to commit even more time to building my company. At a real crossroads, I realized that my happiest times were tied to music – singing, composing and sharing it with others. I decided to spend some time just to take lessons from the great masters. It has been a challenging, but exhilarating, experience – challenging on so many fronts. The great masters demanded intensive dedication, often in different countries, time I had to find somewhere. I had to go back and build my fundamentals almost at a high school level, as my technical skills lagged my ideas and musical visions. It has been a great way to shed ego.
Music has made me rethink my idea of perfection in all areas of my life. The more I work on my music, the more I realize that the endpoint is ephemeral. The journey itself is what it is about. Music is inside all of us, but we are all like different birds in a forest, even the great artists. The glory of the different sounds and stages is what makes the forest so exciting. If all of us were only nightingales, it would be a boring forest indeed. I view the world and all my relationships – business, personal and family – through this prism. I feel a lot more love and compassion inside for everything and everybody.
I want to be the love and light I wish to see and feel in this world – everyday, moving a step closer.
