Corrina Gordon-Barnes is a Certified Professional Coach specializing in supporting women who want to turn their passion into a profitable business. [www.youinspireme.co.uk]

Joanne is a massage therapist with a generous heart. She just wants to give. She believes massage is a gift that everyone should benefit from. So she keeps her prices low. She says “yes” to discounts whenever she’s asked, and she doesn’t charge her friends. Her expenses are just about covered, although she has to keep another job to pay all of her bills. She’s tired and often considers giving up, but feels that would be abandoning her calling.

Alicia has a generous heart. She just wants to give. And she knows that the better resourced she is, the easier it is for her to give. So she sets good, solid prices for her massages – and doesn’t drop them. She markets her services efficiently. She politely says “no” to discounts. She has a steady stream of income which means she’s able to give up all other work and focus completely on what she most loves to do. She is totally in flow: her gifts flow through her to benefit others; money flows through others to her, so she can keep offering her talents.

If we want more people to benefit from our great work, we must become comfortable with asking for and receiving money. When we limit how much money we receive, we limit how many people we can help.

This is what I care most about: that we see it as our duty to receive good money doing our good work. The most generous act is not to work for free – because that will limit how resourced we are. The most generous act is to be humble enough to receive money because that means we can dedicate our full heart, our mental energy, and our precious time to serving people and doing what we’re on this planet to do.

We must allow people to pay us. Their money keeps us available to serve. There’s the joke that it cost a fortune to keep Gandhi living in poverty and the same applies here: we must be honest that it requires a good flow of money to keep us being generous.

It’s because you’re not doing it for the money that you must decide to make good money. The world needs your passion. Let money flow to you so you can give us what we need.

– Corrina Gordon-Barnes
