choose joy

When I’ve got a decision to make – a left road or a right road – I’m always choosing the road that leads me to the most joy. I try to choose the road that makes me most happy or makes my family most happy. If I have a philosophy these days, it’s to follow the fun. When I stick to that, good things happen.
I’ve been doing that for about ten years now, ever since I gave a body part to someone. Donating a kidney was a real turning point for me. I’ve looked at things differently since then and the path of my life has altered for the better.
It’s been absolutely obvious to me that since I donated that kidney life has been throwing me different opportunities. People were curious about what I’d done and asked me about it. As I talked about what I’d done, more and more opportunities came before me. I’m taking every single one of them and that makes me happy.
A year and a half ago, my wife and I moved from the east to southern California, without knowing a soul here other than my best friend from high school. We’re now living in a mobile home community where, if I sneeze, my neighbors are so close they yell, “Bless you,” out their window. But the ocean is close, too, and so are the mountains. The famer’s market and everything else are right here for us. When you combine all of that with the eccentric and eclectic people we’re surrounded with, it makes life so enjoyable. We’ve met so many people and have so many new friends. Everything in my life is fresh and I discover something new here every day.
