When I was 18, I fell in love with a man with ocean eyes. He took me to the sea, and there, under a deepening sky, I held a pyramid of quartz.
“I like to look at the sea,” he said. “It makes my soul happy to see it through my eyes.”
My soul looked through my eyes and saw this man, and was happy.
We sat in silence, then he took my hand.
He still hasn’t let it go.
That one night beneath a crescent moon, where love and spirit intertwined, is the crux of my life.
Life becomes better, richer, deeper when we see it with our spirit, when our soul looks out from our eyes to see the miracles all around us, the blessings and the glory.
When we let that wise soul inside us see, she not only sees beauty in life – she also knows the way. Even when the path is dark with night and strewn with boulders. She knows the weight we currently bear can be lightened. She knows it’s all for a reason.
Life can become exquisite when we see with eyes of spirit.
One year ago today, my belly was becoming a full moon. A precious little body rolled there, pressing feet into my hand. I was afraid, of course. Afraid of how my life would quake open. How on earth could I be brave enough, strong enough to birth forth this little one? I was lost at sea.
Until I remembered: Go back to your roots, Leonie. To the place you believe. Let your soul look out and teach you. Your faith has not lost you.
When the time came, in the early light of morning, I breathed a prayer to the skies. I asked my angels to be with me. I turned my face to the birth goddess, the warrior mama I was to become, and I strode into that hospital with spirit eyes blazing, determined that this would be sacred.
And it was.
As the sun set that night, a baby goddess was born into the world.
And my spirit watched it all, and was happy.
