change

The only constant we have in life is change. Of course, being human, I frequently forget that and latch onto ways of operating, people, things, even ideas, hoping they’ll stay “this good.” But they don’t stay the same. They get better. They look worse. And they transform beyond anything I could have ever imagined.
Those moments of change remind me to keep moving, stay open, and continue creating the positive changes I want to see in myself, in the lives of those nearest me, and, by extension, rippling out into the world.
When I’m at my best, I’m enjoying and delighting in spontaneous wonderful change. I’m seeing each day as a fresh blessing. I’m meeting each person where they are now, not based on yesterday. I’m revising and reinvigorating my systems – my external systems that keep me focused and on track, and my internal systems – like the beliefs I’m holding, the vision I’m co-creating, and the self-talk I’m feeding myself. All of these things make up my ever-evolving way of being.
I’m continually refining my way of being in the world and with myself. That means adding to my toolbox and giving myself refresher courses when I’ve fallen behind. How do I know which tool to pull out of the toolbox? I simply ask my inner knower – the one inside each of us who does know what’s meaningful, what’s not working, and what’s next, even when we’re tempted to hang out in uncertainty.
I believe in that extraordinary guide inside each of us, the one who’s ready and willing at any moment to point us towards a seemingly small step that perfectly aligns us with where we want to go.
When I surrender to the rhythm of life, also known as “God’s plan, not mine,” I get to respond to whatever’s happening with freedom, courage, and inspiration. That’s when life gets fun and I come alive.
“Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.” – Unknown
