receive

Receiving love is most meaningful to me at the moment. Feeling the support that is all around me all the time. I’ve spent a lot of my life being independent, mistaking that for being alone. I am now realizing that I get just enough support to do it “on my own.” I’m very grateful for that because the feeling of accomplishment is greater when I work for it. But feeling loved comes when I recognize and receive the support. Today, I understand that it’s both/and. I’m getting more and more comfortable with both.
The turning point in understanding this was probably after I had what I call a clean sweep in my life 10 years ago. I lost my relationship, father, job, and ability to move (due to an injury). That’s when the call back to the self happened. I had to allow myself to be helped. I was reliant on others, and knocked into my senses in a way.
Each year, I set an intention for myself, a touchstone for my year. I always return to the intention that I set each year if I feel disconnected. This year was to receive what is in alignment with my highest good. I forget all the time, but with that intention in the back of my mind, I end up returning. Stopping to take a few deep breaths, sitting in meditation, writing a gratitude list – these are all great tools that I use for refocusing. Also exercise helps me clear my head to be ready to receive.
It’s up to each individual to add meaning to life. Interpretation is the great benefit of the human mind. So I’d say the only thing limiting you, if you feel limited, is your own mind. We really have the ability to spin a situation any way we’d like. I’ve reframed my thinking many times, like when my first boyfriend left me. I actually got on my knees and said “thank you” through my pain. I didn’t know why but I knew it would be good for me. I received the pain.
When searching for what is meaningful to you, look for themes in your life. How is this like your family history? What patterns do you keep repeating? Living our lives and uncovering ourselves is like an archaeological dig. It’s all about self-discovery. Everything that happens to you is a gift from the Universe to reveal even more.
