My life’s meaning is guided by a passion for art that I developed as a very young child. It started as mere reflections on the art that surrounded me: the paintings and sculptures of black musicians on my father’s walls and the stacks of vinyl LPs and wonderful album covers that would later define my career. In high school, I must have been the only French-Jewish kid obsessed with Blaxploitation films and soul/funk/jazz music. All of that imagery served as a “brain-tattoo,” if you will. I’ve never forgotten a single image and have made a career out of understanding, studying, and designing black music and film culture for the new era.
My passion has been called an obsession. I accept that. Everything I do today is thanks to my perseverance and my unrelenting desire to push myself to make the next project my greatest. I’ve worked with all my favorite artists. But I knew I would.
I knew when I started collecting records that I’d one day design them, and it was the same way with movie posters. The excitement that takes over my breathing when it comes to the subject of my passion is the very thing that has kept me in the game.
I will never tire of discussing my passions. I can stay up for days when I work on a project I’m passionate about. It’s easy to stay focused because I let my passion drive me.
