As a psychotherapist, I needed to reconcile helping folks develop a strong, healthy sense of personal self with, as a meditation teacher, helping folks discover the freedom and liberation of letting go of that self into being-ness. We can get stuck in old fear-based, shame-based defensive patterns that prevent us from learning and changing. Both mindfulness and psychotherapy help us see those patterns clearly, compassionately. Therapy reflects our own innate goodness back to them until they begin to experience it again for themselves.
Recall a moment, any moment, no matter how small or long ago, when you experienced a sense of purpose, a sense of meaning. Deepen into the sense of that experience, and bring that sense forward into something meaningful now, no matter how small.
