notice why

Three years ago, I felt pretty lost. Overworked, underpaid, hostage to my credit card debt … and I couldn’t find my why. Fast-forward to April 2010, and my world changed.
What’s most meaningful to me is my daughter. Everything I do and everything I’m working toward is for her. Because of her, I have direction, purpose, vitality, happiness, hope, joy, pleasure, ideas, clarity, goals, and motivation.
Being aware that my daughter has been the catalyst for the positive change in my life is incredibly freeing. I feel powerful and in control of my life. I feel like myself.
Shortly after finding out about my (unexpected) pregnancy (although, let’s keep in mind that things happen for a reason), my diet changed drastically. I became aware and conscious of everything health-related. I began to shape and live as my real self. I became a holistic health counselor, starting my business months after my daughter was born so I could be home with her. I had a new sense of confidence and a deeper knowing that it would all work out the way it should. Though it didn’t happen overnight, I’d found the clarity, freedom, and power that pushed me to do something I’d always wanted to do.
My why for everything I do keeps me living a life of meaning. It’s a constant reminder of what I’m capable of accomplishing.
To accomplish anything, we need a why. Finding a deeper reason for doing something catapults us forward faster and makes us feel more alive than ever. Why is also the key to unlocking who we really are. Are you the suit or are you the yoga pants? If you’re the yoga pants, why are you wearing that suit day after day? Are you being true to yourself, to your why?
Are you aware of the need for why? The why isn’t as important as the awareness of what’s most meaningful. That’s the key. That awareness keeps us in check, on track, and in control.
When I’m aware of why I’m doing something, I make better decisions. I can stop what’s wrong and get on track. I stay true to my real self. I’m happy.
The why changes. Just be aware of it.
