connection

Four different aspects of connection are profoundly meaningful to me …
Connection with spirits
We swim in a vast invisible ocean of energy. What we see with our senses is a small fraction of what’s going on around us. Whatever we can do to transcend the limitations of our senses connects us with that higher spirit – that intangible energy around us that provides us with all the nutrients and answers we need.
Connection with nature
Nature is a great teacher. When we get out into green and open sky and water, we connect with our bodies and learn. It’s important to breathe that fresh air and feel the Earth breathing along with us. Yesterday, I swam in a deep ocean bay and a pod of more than 200 dolphins played with us, diving beneath us and jumping over us. It blew my mind to hear their sounds – singing, squeaking, laughing, and connecting – and to hear how alive the ocean is under the water.
Connection with tribe
When we connect with other humans, especially on a deep, personal level, we see ourselves differently. Oftentimes, we’re in our own perception of reality, looking out, not seeing what the world sees within us. Connecting with tribe is an important way to balance ourselves and face both our greatest strengths and the things we need to bring into balance within ourselves.
Connection with self
Connection with self is the seed of our connection with everything else. Our planet is a giant organism – a living, breathing, feeling entity. It has a heart and a mind. We’re its individual neurotransmitters and we each have an important role to play. Part of that role is to find our creative, unique way to express ourselves.
I love sound. It’s a powerful tool I use to find my way back If I get off track. The vibration of sound brings my body back into balance and renews my connection. I hum and feel the tingle and resonance of the hum from my lips all through my body. “Mmmmm” is the sound we make when we’re connecting to something yummy and nourishing and good. It triggers the body to relax.
If our Earth is an organism, then – like neurons in a baby’s brain that develop to a point of cohesion and connection – it can start to articulate thoughts. I like to imagine what will happen when we interlink all the conscious people on this planet into a cohesive unity and learn to speak out into the universe. Maybe that’s when we’ll meet our intergalactic relatives. Maybe that’s what they’re waiting for.
