Gratitude, health, meaningful relationships, and generosity are important values for me. I’ve always been a compassionate person – wholeheartedly believing that even a little help goes a long way. My belief that I can make a difference in someone’s life means so much to me.
Philanthropy and advocating for good is an innate quality I’ve had since I was ten years old, when I began volunteering at local libraries and after-school programs, donating my time to places and people that needed assistance. When I did something good to benefit others, I had an indescribably wonderful feeling.
I was able to blend my values in a more profound way after I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus Cerebritis in 2002. In 2009, the Lupus Foundation of America gave me the rare opportunity to publicly share my personal story about Lupus in a national advertising campaign advocating awareness and helping others recognize early symptoms. I’m extremely proud to be a part of the campaign, which has been running for three years now.
Although sometimes I feel disconnected from what’s important to me, I seem to find my way back when I stop, take a step back, and reflect. Remembering all I’ve gone through and focusing on what I have yet to accomplish keeps me positive and moving forward.
Sometimes we get caught up in things in our lives in such a way that we’re unable to fully enjoy life for what it is. We may have too many obligations, or we may have expectations about experiencing our life’s journey in a certain way. That’s why finding our own meaning of life is so important. The best way I’ve found to begin is by letting go of self-doubt enough to try new things. Then a new hobby can turn into a new career, or a career change can turn into a life passion.
There’s always room for self-improvement. That’s why I’m dedicated to improving my inner self-talk and trusting my intuition even more. By doing this, I hope my life will continue to be filled with meaningful milestones.
