acting

I love everything about acting. I was in my first play when I was three. I went out on stage and performed, and then the audience clapped. I felt an instant gratification and thrill that I could do something that brought people joy.
I was the youngest of four, almost an oversight. “Oh, yes, there’s Hayley. We need to make sure and do something with her or bring her along.” I just wanted to do something to be known by or remembered by, to make people take notice of me and know that I mattered in the world.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to play many characters. It’s so much fun to dissect them and then become them. I’m myself all the time, but I love the opportunity to dive into a different character and feel like I’ve become someone else.
I get to meet a lot of creative people on set who are actually out there doing something they love in a creative format. Even though the acting industry is one of let-downs, trials, and tribulations, I find joy in the smallest things in life – like rollerblading every morning. Every day, I choose to have a positive attitude, knowing that whatever’s meant to be is meant to be.
I tend to put out a positive attitude, but everyone has things that bring them down and I’m no exception. For me, it’s often about self-confidence. I have to find confidence in myself to achieve my goals. I do a lot of work with affirmations – affirming who I am as an individual and reminding myself that I’m special, that I have something special to offer. Ever since I was little, I’ve had an “I won’t give up” attitude. Sometimes I have uphill battles, but I’ve made the choice to be determined. After all, tomorrow’s another day, another chance to do things in a different way.
I want to make my own choices rather than be a people pleaser and make choices other people think I should make. It seems easy in this world to fall into a place of doing whatever others need me to do. I want to make people happy and please them, but then, at the end of the day, if I’m not happy, I’m not doing a good job of it. Sometimes we put on a happy face, fake it ‘til we make it, and push on through, but it’s important to let our true colors show through it all.
