self-satisfy

I feel so joyful when I’m having an impact on people’s lives. When I used to do presentations as a vibrator seller and a woman would tell me that because of me she was able to have her first orgasm, it was really life-altering. I found that completely rewarding.
The first thing I learned in what I call Sex School was that 60 percent of the female population have never had an orgasm. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it!
After I did my first presentation, the first person to come into my office said, “Jasmine, you have to help me. I don’t like oral sex. My husband says that if I don’t give him a blowjob, he’s going to leave me. And I don’t think I’ve ever had an orgasm.”
I didn’t know what to do. I was given strict instruction not to counsel people, because I wasn’t a professional counselor, but this woman looked like she was about to cry. I said, “I’m sorry. I think you have a communication problem. It’s not about the blow job!”
The impetus for me to start working with women came because I’d fallen into a trap. I didn’t know how to be in a relationship with anyone because I wasn’t in a good relationship with myself. Not being sexually satisfied with myself was an extension of my unhappiness, and I projected it onto my partner.
To expect our partners to automatically know things about us isn’t fair to them, and it certainly isn’t fair to ourselves. When we start with ourselves and do the groundwork, it makes a huge difference in our relationships. I’m very passionate about women understanding themselves before they engage in relationships with anyone else.
I want to see women take control of every aspect of their lives: spiritual, emotional, physical, and sexual. It filters into every part of our lives. If I’m happy, I make a better sister, mother, lover, friend, and citizen. I want to see close-mindedness eradicated. I want people to be free to be themselves.
