tea party

As I was thinking this morning about what’s meaningful to me, before talking on the phone about it, my daughter asked me to have a tea party with her. I said, “Gia, no. I’m going to be on a phone call soon and I need to prepare.” After a few minutes, I thought, “If I’m not prepared now to answer the question of what’s meaningful to me, I’m not ever going to be prepared.” So I stopped had a tea party with Gia.
What’s meaningful to me is spending time with family and friends and people who inspire me. I’m inspired by hanging out with my daughter. Children are such incredible teachers. They remind us of what it’s like to be naïve, in the best way possible, and peaceful. There aren’t often a whole lot of worries when you’re a kid.
What’s also meaningful to me is being able to identify thoughts and emotions as just thoughts and emotions. For so long, I was confused because I identified myself with my feelings and thoughts. They belong to us, but they’re not us. They’re energy in a particular pattern. Our bodies and emotions and thoughts are mini-models of the universe. Like using training wheels on a bike, we can learn to control them so they’re not controlling us.
In my daily life, I forget this about thoughts and emotions all the time and act otherwise all the time, yet there are moments every day when I remember. It’s in those remembering moments that I realize, “Oh, I don’t have to feel this way. I can feel any way I want.” Then I take steps in that direction and within minutes my whole vibration has changed and I’m in a completely different mood. Being able to do that is an ah-ha every day for me.
What’s meaningful to me is remembering this about thoughts and feelings and applying it in everyday conversation, whether it’s with someone I work with or with my daughter.
The next frontier is mastery, continuing toward a state of being imperturbable, holding a way of being that’s positive and inspiring to myself and others around me, all day, every day.
