possibility

I wasn’t always so focused on possibility. When I worked as a traditional financial planner, I was more focused on what was missing in someone’s financial situation. I became very frustrated when I saw people rejected as prospective clients because they didn’t have enough money to manage, or because they weren’t interested in purchasing financial products. Those people needed guidance as much as anyone else – if not more so – and I knew that giving them the right information could change their lives.
So I left. I walked away from a successful practice and started experimenting with new ways of offering money solutions. People seemed to like that I wasn’t affiliated with products or investments (imagine that). I started to realize exactly how free I really was to do whatever I wanted.
Rather than working from a place of fear, I discovered people’s best financial potential naturally, through creativity. My excitement over the potential of someone’s situation, regardless of where they were starting from, was contagious. We all have unlimited possibilities in our lives.
Whenever I feel disconnected from that open, collaborative place, I remind myself to focus on possibility and potential. Even in the darkest situations, we have choice and an opportunity. We can choose to look backwards and rehash the past, or use what we’ve learned to move forward into a new reality.
People get stuck believing that they are their financial situations. Or that what they’re doing today is wrecking their financial future. Nothing is irreparable. The thing you’re going through today that you believe is screwing up your financial future may actually be the key to growing your wealth exponentially.
The key to bringing more meaning to your money is deciding to change the way you perceive and discuss your financial life. Stop looking at all the ways you think you’re stuck. Start looking for the small steps you can take today that are grounded in positive possibility.
Choosing possibility over fear isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a commitment you need to renew every day. It helps to remember that just because someone shows you a model of your future retirement doesn’t mean it’s true. Nothing is real until it happens. Until then, life and money are pure possibility.
