joyfulness

What’s most meaningful for me now is bringing love and joyfulness more and more into my everyday life and my expression, through service and by being an example of what I’ve been blessed to learn over the years. I’ve been a student of John-Roger’s (he founded the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness)and I’m in a place now where I’m letting those teachings and that love and joyfulness flow through me without condition, irrespective of situational circumstances.
Sometimes I do fall out of that place of beautiful flow. I’m not there constantly, though I’m there more and more. There are a couple of things I do to regain my poise and my balance. One is to say STOP to where I’m going if it isn’t serving me. The other is to do my best to not be judgmental of the issue that’s come up for me to deal with. In doing that, I attempt to invest more of my authenticity into the issue. One or the other of those things magically gets me through and back into the flow.
Before I came into the Movement, when I was around 20, I was very superficial, yet I was seeking something more than the falseness of my life at that time. I was into discos and hippiedom and everything else that went with that, but it wasn’t serving me. I felt so empty, so unsatisfied, and I longed for something more. Then, fortunately, I came into the Movement and it completely transformed my life, almost overnight. It was a huge change – and I was ready for it. Things unfolded from there, very beautifully and very magnificently, in terms of what I experienced.
There’s a movie coming out in 2011 called The Wayshower. It’s about John-Roger growing up, about his life in Utah with his mother and father. In the film, after J-R goes through the accident which changed his consciousness, there’s a scene where he wakes up and his mother is sitting there. I’ll paraphrase it. She says, “How are you, son?” And he says to her, straight out, “You’re not my mother anymore. I don’t need a mother anymore. I need a very good older friend.”
That scene has significance to me in terms of its absolute authenticity and truthfulness, as it reflects where I’ve been and what I’m doing with my life. I went through huge changes like that, too, on my path to the increasing love and joyfulness I experience now. And it’s made a huge positive difference.
