passionate

I nurture my mind, body, and spirit because living a healthy lifestyle brings me a great deal of inner peace. Growing my own food, composting, cooking with local seasonal foods, getting a good night sleep, and being active by gardening, hiking, and doing yoga are all critical components of my overall wellness. Committing to this lifestyle and being able to empower children and their families to live in healthy ways is incredibly meaningful to me.
During my dietetic internship, I saw first-hand the consequences of not living a healthy lifestyle, which is why I created HealthBarn USA.
Every day, I work with a variety of kids. Kids want to be healthy and are excited to eat natural foods. Their enthusiasm and feedback motivates me to reach out to as many children and families as possible. I decided to write my book so families can bring the HealthBarn into their homes.
I love what I do, but it’s always a matter of balance, because I’m more prone to put my work before my personal needs. I try to slow down and take time in the morning or when I get home at night to take care of myself. A daily meditation practice in the morning and evening and a consistent yoga practice help me stay focused. I always spend time in our organic garden weeding – imagining I’m plucking out all the negativity around me!
I see people all the time getting stuck in jobs or situations that don’t bring out the best in them. Dealing with the fear of change is harder than addressing unhappiness. I ask them, What are you passionate about? What keeps you up at night? What do you find yourself reading about often? The answers we seek are within us, if we can just quiet the mind enough to hear them.
Once you identify what it is you’re passionate about, TAKE ACTION. Connect with people working in your area of interest and you’ll start doing what’s meaningful to you. When you take action, the possibilities are endless. It’s important to take action in small steps. Before you know it, you’ll be running a marathon!
