inner wealth

Life happens for us, not to us. Every experience we have – our moments of joy, as well as our darkest days – are essential to our ultimate awareness, our expansion, and the liberation we seek when we say we want to live a free and full life.
I grew up in an affluent home where I was taught that money was the key to happiness, yet my parents and my home life weren’t happy. I thought if I rejected money and those who had it I’d protect myself from more pain and conflict. It took lots of inner work to trade in that perspective for a healthier relationship with money, one that includes a wealth of spirit.
My parents valued materialistic pursuits and external expressions of wealth far above their children’s best interests. My dad’s relentless, unhealthy, and sometimes questionably legal pursuit of “more is better” ultimately left him with a ruined reputation, penniless and alone.
My last bedside conversation with Dad broke my heart. It wasn’t his impending death at age 94 that was so difficult. What tore me apart was his final question: “Do you hate me?” It took my breath away.
Had I not traveled my own journey of personal awareness, my answer to his question might have been filled with anger and resentment about who he was as a father. Thankfully, I was able to genuinely respond with compassion and understanding that gave him peace in his final days. At the same time, I despaired that it had taken being at death’s door for him to connect with what he valued and needed most.
Dad realized that social club memberships, allegiance to every “get even richer” scheme, and being seen with the hottest babe on his arm weren’t what life was all about. At the end, all he wanted to know was “Did I matter?”
As he examined the choices he’d made, he didn’t like what he saw – and he was out of time. That brought me to tears.
My mission is to support people who struggle with the paradox of wealth, so they can make their money matter and the quality of their life experience matter more. Many wealthy people have learned how to invest their time, energy, and financial resources in their highest ideals. They leverage their human assets to enrich others. They serve the greater good of all, including themselves and their families, for generations to come.
After all, the life we lead is the legacy we leave.
