Something major is happening on the planet right now. A lot of people are aware of this. We need to start connecting with each other and making a significant difference in the direction things are going. This connecting of the dots is most meaningful for me right now.
99.99 percent of the conflicts human beings face are created by human beings. Through fear and human-created conflict, we’ve lost sight of the fact that we’re all united – as a species, and with all other living beings on the planet. We need to step back and assess the higher purpose of human existence. It’s about more than just survival and who ends up with the most goodies. We need to get over ourselves and start realizing what the purpose of our lives can really be.
Everything is going to change. Our present systems – political, economic, educational, and health – are all undergoing massive transitions right now. A lot of what we see on the surface is relatively negative because we’re looking at what’s breaking down. It’s the nature of systems to break down before they reconstitute themselves in higher, better, more complex and efficient ways.
In the next 20 or 30 years, what we’ll be looking to for inspiration won’t be so much a single company, or even a single technology, but unified change affecting everyone on the planet.
Because of these changes, I think we’ll see less suffering, less inequality, and more focused effort from groups working together rather than focusing on their differences and continuing to create conflict. The qualities that unite people and our shared purposes will become more important.
For me, the ultimate purpose of the universe is being creative and sharing that creativity. If there’s a designer of the universe, I think they have a highly developed aesthetic sense, as they’ve created a universe with infinite capability. Part of being human is expanding our awareness and creative pursuits in a way that’s sustainable and creates joy – not just for ourselves but for others.
When we connect with the miracle of something as simple as breathing, we can start seeing the miracle of everything around us. Sitting here in my office, when I look around and see the computer, the lamp, the table and chairs and everything else – I see miracles.
It’s a miracle how much we’ve evolved. There’s so much humans have created that’s of practical use and that’s beautiful.
– William Gladstone
