I seek meaning that further liberates and increases my awareness of those around me and of the world in which we live. When I published my first book, I focused on the change that occurs in “waking up.”
The collection speaks to a variety of topics that includes: children, grace, friendship, humanity, home, kindness, travel, and music. These topics and stories in which humanity is shown and courage is expressed provide meaning to my life.
Several years ago a co-worker shared with me her story of breaking up with her boyfriend. He had verbally attacked her, stating, “Not only are you ugly and fat, no one else will love you when I leave.” She believed what he had said. In that moment I realized the power that words hold. They hold the power to harm and destroy. Maya Angelou often reminds us that “words are things.” Her observation was certainly confirmed for me.
In response to my co-worker’s pain I asked her if I could write something for her. My intention was to help her to heal in any way that I could by offering her my words. The following words were my gift to her. “It is with grace that you arrived-The universe knew of your coming-Rest in the belief that you are enough.”
We all struggle, make mistakes, and live with uncertainty. Underneath the struggles and behind the mistakes is the belief that we aren’t enough. What if we were enough? What would that look like? Where in your life do you find yourself being enough or perhaps, not enough? There is meaning to be found in both. A meaning that moves us closer to a life more liberating.
