I’ve discovered very recently that the things that used to be my everything, my reason for being, have turned upside down. For most of my life, I was driven by a need for success, fame, wealth – the whole star thing. I’ve learned that what I was looking for is not success for the sake of success. The fact is, with success comes the ability to do things for the people I care about.
As entertainers, our job is to bring joy to people. Specifically, what I try to do is recreate the sense of childlike wonder we all had when we were kids. I find such reward in seeing happiness in those I love that it’s become the primary factor that drives everything I do.
Two things bring me happiness. One is creating art – creating something new, creating the next thing, seeing something in my imagination and then being able to realize it and bring it to life.
The second and more important thing is being able to share my creations with the people I care about. Of course, it’s great to share my creations with millions of people, but when I share them with people who are my family, genetically and artistically, together we can drive that art form forward.
I’ve come to realize that the reason we’re here is to make time as joyful as possible for others who happen to be with us in this same brief click of a moment. We have each other and that’s all there is. The best we can ever hope to do is try to make this ride as fun as possible for ourselves and for the people we love.
