I’ve been using the word because for much of my life without ever really knowing what it meant. I mainly used it to justify why things were the way they were. It’s because my dad was an authoritarian, my mom didn’t stand up for herself, my basketball coach didn’t give me a chance, and they lost the money I invested. Because, because, because.
I blocked out what I didn’t want to see or hear and was only aware of what backed up “my story.” The more I did this the more I lost touch with the natural essence of me. Nature doesn’t lie or hide. Picture a tree or a bug or the sun. They continuously give and expresses themselves fully. Nature is in a constant state of becoming. Every moment it communicates as clearly as possible all that it is, never hiding, deceiving, or making excuses.
I now realize that in order for me to get back to my authentic and natural self, I must take full responsibility for my life. Rather than saying my life is
BECAUSE
of something outside of my control, I must be-the-cause of my life. I must stand tall and
BE-CAUSE
I am not the effect of my parents, boss, religion, government, or any other thing. I am the cause. I cause it by choosing what to focus on. What I focus on I see. What I see I experience. What I experience is who I am. Everything around me and in me is a result of me. I am cause. I am my reality. So I acknowledge my glorious heritage of being creation and, like nature, I take on the mantle of communicating who I am with precision, accuracy, and confidence, without fear, guilt, or shame. It is a wonderful and glorious endeavor.
