curves

I used to weigh 320 pounds. The life of a fat woman is not pretty. At least, it wasn’t for me. I used to question every chair before I sat on it. I needed extensions for the seatbelt on every plane ride. I washed the only pair of pants that fit me every night so I could have them ready in the morning. I never borrowed clothing from a friend. And I never sat on anyone’s lap. Ever.
Today I weigh 160 pounds, and I’m speaking at TEDx Women about the learnings I got from my curves. The pain of it. The tremendous growth from it. What I can impart to others who are having a difficult time attaining their goals, whether it’s a thicker wallet or a thinner waist. It is not a neutral experience to become half of oneself, and I want to share how it has taught me to treat myself and others with compassion.
To be speaking at TEDx Women is a great honor. One of the greatest honors of my career, in fact. The women I’m sharing the stage with are truly inspiring – women who are constantly learning and teaching what they’ve learned so that you and I and everyone can live fuller lives, and, yes, tip the learning curves in our favor.
