impact

There have been plenty of times in my life when all I was doing was going through the motions just to get by. Times when I knew I was only a cog in the machine and not making a difference.
In order to make a difference, I’ve had to look at the world differently. I’ve had to find a way to free myself from limiting beliefs. I’ve had to go outside my comfort zone by starting a conversation with the universe, a conversation in which I’m doing the listening instead of the talking, listening even when the universe starts talking crazy and saying things like “You need to open a hypnotherapy practice and you need to do it now.”
So, today, I do get to have meaning in my life. I live for moments of meaning.
Moments as a dad …
… when I know I’ve inspired my son to find strengths he didn’t know he has, to overcome a fear and achieve something beyond what anyone else thinks is possible.
… when my daughter takes a creative chance with an assignment at school and I know she does it because I encourage her to follow her passions. Then, when her teacher freaks out about it, I get to go to bat for her with the teacher and see my daughter get the credit she deserves.
Moments as a hypnotherapist …
… when a client tells me her body is free from pain for the first time in years.
… when a client goes on a date with an amazing woman and, for the first time ever, has total confidence in who he is and what he has to offer.
I get excited about what my kids and my clients are doing for themselves. What I do is help them find the power, tools, strengths, passions, and inspiration they already have. I give them a little nudge, and I get to see their lives change.
One of the funny little secrets of my business is that my clients don’t really hire me to hypnotize them (even though they love that part of the experience). They hire me to empower them to change their lives.
What makes that a privilege and an honor is knowing I’ve had an impact. I get to do something with the time I have on this earth that really matters. I get to make a difference.
