voice

Life is most meaningful to me – enjoying it to the fullest. There are so many special and incredible moments we make for ourselves and that happen upon us. It’s important take time to appreciate them. That’s how I live my life. I feel like I have a smile on my face most of the time – taking it slow and seeing where each situation is going and what it has to offer.
I’ve been working on the next step in my life: finding my voice. I decided to take that desire literally and enrolled myself in the International Opera Institute in Denver as a way to learn to have more confidence in certain areas of my life. Being on stage and putting myself through that uncomfortable and challenging situation seems like a good way to help myself try to figure out who I am and where I want to go.
I’m having a great time. Before, I couldn’t even do karaoke. Now I’m working on being a dramatic tenor and exploring an opera career. The male voice doesn’t mature until around the age of 40, so this is a career I can actually start at this point.
I do a lot of public speaking, but have never been comfortable up on stage. Singing in front of other people on a stage really gets more of me out there. Singing – making sound from such a low and deep place in the body – requires that I put all of myself out there when I’m doing it. I’m sometimes terrified, even if I’m only singing in front of my classmates.
I like the idea that through this step of learning to sing on stage I’ll have more options for how to use my voice – literally and otherwise.
